In terms of inputting destinations no expense has been spared, as the Carrera X350 has a seven-digit postcode search. And if you’re looking for a specific point of interest, there’s a useful selection of locations covering car parks, garages, restaurants, hotels and more.
On the move, the system picked up a satellite signal in seconds – unlike some pricier rivals – and when we deviated off our designated route, it was quick to point us in the right direction. However, in other areas, it’s clear where Binatone has cut corners. The design is dated, with a small 3.5-inch monitor, and although it has touchscreen controls, the graphics are fairly basic.
The voice guidance becomes wearing after a while, too, as it’s quite robotic – there are no TomTom-style celebrity voices here. Neither do you get a picture viewer, music player or hands-free phone connection.
So the Carrera X350 doesn’t have the frills of more expensive set-ups. But if you want a simple budget sat-nav, then it’s well worth a look.
