Revival in everyday classic cars

Older models increasingly being used daily

A spokesman for the trade bible said: “Drivers are being drawn to the potential financial benefits of running an older car, spurred on by fellow enthusiasts online.”

He put this increase in popularity down to a variety of factors. “The Internet has enabled classic car fans worldwide to share their experiences, and this has encouraged UK motorists to drive their vehicles all year round,” he explained.

Another important factor is the latest underbody protection techniques, which make it possible to enjoy an older car throughout the winter without the risk of serious rust damaging your investment.

“This is removed from the old approach, which saw owners leaving their classics to ‘hibernate’, and it reflects the modern mentality for savouring the finer things in life,” the spokesman told us.

Even those cautious owners who do drive their vehicles less as the weather worsens are now getting increasing opportunities to use their cars, thanks to the proliferation of track days and touring events on mainland Europe. This trend has seen the market for classic models remain healthy throughout the traditionally quiet winter months.
