Forester is inspired by Impreza and debuts this month
10th December 2007
As this sneak preview from www.subaru.jp reveals, the wraps will come off the all-wheel-drive MPV at midnight on Christmas Eve, ahead of the car’s public debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January. With its versatile five-seat interior, one Subaru insider said the new Forester will build on the current vehicle’s appeal – offering considerable interior space and a generous boot.
Our images show the styling will be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, taking its inspiration from the new Impreza and Legacy models. That means sculpted headlamps, plus the firm’s winged grille design at the front, while at the rear, there will be a more rounded tail. An elevated ride height will give the driver a commanding view of the road, plus genuine off-road ability.
The newcomer is expected to feature a range of petrol and diesel engines, as the Forester will become the second vehicle in Subaru’s line-up to offer the firm’s oil-burning 2.0-litre boxer engine. An STI edition is being developed, but there are no plans yet to bring it to the UK.
