The new VW Passat Coupé has emerged from the shadows – and these are the first official images of the German firm’s sleek four-door.
Taken from a video on the manufacturer’s website, the dark preview shots reveal that the stylish four-door has a low, sweeping roof and a distinctive crease along the waistline that rises sharply towards the rear. Here you’ll find a high-set tailgate and large wraparound light clusters.
At the front, the Passat takes its inspiration from the Eos coupé cabrio, with a large chrome grille and slim headlamps. Under the rakish exterior will be standard Passat mechanicals. However, entry-level models should get a 170bhp version of VW’s 1.4-litre TSI turbo and supercharged powerplant. Buyers wanting a diesel will have the choice of all the existing TDI engines, plus a new 2.0-litre oil-burner.
Top-of-the-range versions get a 3.2-litre petrol V6 with the option of 4Motion all-wheel-drive or VW’s DSG sequential manual gearbox. The new Passat Coupé is scheduled to make its world debut early in 2008, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The first UK examples should hit showrooms at the end of 2008, with prices starting from around £20,000.
