It has the same detailed maps and large 1.5 miles-per-inch (mpi) scale as the A3 Navigator, plus 72 town plans and the all-important indices. We assessed it using the same criteria as in our recent test. It’s easy to use, but the Navigator missed some details – for example it didn’t show the planned extension of the M74 near GlasÂgow.
It also failed to highlight the M25’s variable speed cameras and a junction on the A5 which became a roundabout in 2002 – disappointÂing considering this is a new addition. A revamped MultiÂscale Europe map has also arrived, which comes in A4 and A3 sizes. Some drivers will find the smaller map hard to read, but the A3 version’s route-planning pages allowed journeys of up to 1,200 miles to be plotted with- out turning a page.
In addition, Philip’s has launched new country maps, including Italy. These are great for journey planÂning, but a bit unwieldy in the car.
