X-Bow hits bullseye on UK debut

You’ll have to make a bolt for the KTM stand if you want to catch the UK debut of the extreme X-Bow!

KTM is powered by TT’s turbo

The two-seater Caterham rival is on display at this week’s Autosport Show at the NEC in Birmingham. It’s finished in optional Gleaming White for its first public outing in Britain. But if you want to buy one, you face joining the back of a lengthy queue.

Advanced orders for the minimalist sports car have exceeded KTM’s expectations, and the Austrian firm now plans to build 1,000 examples a year once production starts in the spring. The first 100 will be limited-edition Dallara Series models aimed at track day enthusiasts. They will feature extra equipment, and are likely to get individually numbered plaques.

The X-Bow uses the Audi TT’s turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, which delivers 220bhp. It’s linked to a six-speed manual transmission or Audi’s clever S tronic sequential set-up, and propels the car from 0-60mph in around four seconds.

Entry-level models will be priced from £37,238, which means the X-Bow undercuts the £39,208 top-of-the-range Caterham CSR260. But the cost of the KTM doesn’t include delivery charges.
