Special Polo is loaded with kit
10th January 2008
Called the Match, it replaces the S and comes loaded with £825 worth of free kit, including 15-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured door mirrors and front foglights. Inside, there’s leather trim for the wheel, gearlever and handbrake, while electric windows are standard. Buyers will also get the choice between a six-disc CD changer and a connection for an iPod.
Finally, the driver’s seat adjusts for height and the rear bench has a split/fold facility. Prices start at £9,315 for the entry-level 58bhp 1.2-litre petrol version, while the range-topping 68bhp 1.4-litre TDI will set you back £11,380.
Meanwhile, the German company has also released details of its hi-tech new seven-speed DSG gearbox. Developed to boost economy rather than performance, it will debut next month on the Golf. Although it has an extra ratio, the unit is lighter and more compact than the six-cog version.
Connected to the 120bhp 1.4-litre TSI engine, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 10g/km – they are now down to 139g/km – and fuel consumption by 4mpg to 47.9mpg. The box is also available with the 1.9 TDI oil-burner. Prices start at £15,982.
