Bigger, better Forester muscles in

The wraps are officially off Subaru’s new Forester, which debuts at the Detroit Motor Show.

Bigger than before and with an increased ride height, it’s more compact SUV than crossover estate, and is targeting models such as Toyota’s RAV4 and Honda’s CR-V.

The Forester shares its chassis with the new Impreza, boasting full-time four-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential, plus SI-Drive – which allows a choice of three different drivetrain modes. Power comes from two 2.0-litre flat four-cylinder ‘boxer’ petrol engines, with a diesel due in September. Prices start from £18,000.
