Czech firm Skoda expects excellence for its new Superb. With striking looks and plenty of kit, the new range-topper is set to go head to head with the all-conquering Ford Mondeo.
We've already seen the nose of the newcomer, but these are the first official pictures showing the whole car. The front features an imposing grille and aggressive-looking wraparound headlights. However, the big story is at the rear. Despite saloon car looks, the Superb actually features a large hatchback.
Inside, the car promises to be one of the most spacious in the class. Measuring 4,838mm, it is actually 35mm longer than the already large existing version. There will also be plenty of hi-tech kit, including a touch screen multi-media interface and adaptive corning headlamps.
Buyers will have a choice of six VW sourced engines - three petrol and three diesel. Entry-level models get the 105bhp 1.9TDI, while top versions are powered by the 260bhp 3.2-litre V6 petrol. The standard line-up of five and six-speed manuals will be joined by the quick-shifting DSG semi-auto.
The Superb will make its world debut at the Geneva Show in March, with UK sales starting in September.
