SEAT makes the switch to diesel

Top Hi-Q BTCC team SEAT is to switch to diesel engines for the 2008 season. After four years of petrol power, the Spanish firm is making the move in a bid to beat reigning champion Vauxhall to the title. Its World Touring Car outfit used the oil-burners last year, and narrowly missed out on the manufacturers’ crown.

Indian rookies snap up Fisichella

The fledgling Force India F1 team has named Giancarlo Fischella as its lead driver. The 35 year-old Italian will be joining youngster Adrian Sutil in a squad that blends youth and experience. Fischella is hoping for a strong performance this year after three disappointing seasons with Renault, where
he netted only two wins.

Gronholm ready to test for Ford?

Former world rally champion Marcus Gronholm is considering a test driver role this year. Although the Finn announced his retirement from the sport’s top level last year, his services behind the wheel could be valuable to his former team. Ford hopes to defend its manufacturers’ crown with a revised version of the Focus WRC.

Schuey back in Ferrari hot-seat

It's been confirmed Michael Schumacher will head up Ferrari’s Gestione Sportiva motor racing division. The seven-time F1 world champion retired at the end of 2006, but remained with the team as a consultant. Schuey will test all the squad’s competition motors.

Villeneuve faces NASCAR sweat

A lack of sponsorship means Jacques Villeneuve faces an
uncertain future in the US NASCAR series. Despite some impressive performances in last year’s stock car championship, he may have to sit out some of the 2008 season. However, his BDR Toyota team hopes to get backing before the campaign starts on 17 Feburary.
