We take a look at some of the highlights of one of Britain's most famous car makers.

The recently launched XF has all the ingredients necessary to put the Coventry-based firm back on top. With a stylish exterior, gorgeous cabin and sophisticated chassis it rekindles the classic Jaguar virtues of 'grace, space and pace'.

To celebrate, we've gathered together some of the most important models from the company's long history. From the Thirties SS100 to the 200mph XJ220 there's a rich history to pick from. So take a look and see if your favourite is here.

1. Jaguar XF
Despite being loosely based on the old S-Type, the XF is a huge leap forward. Neat styling, a gorgeous cabin and sharp chassis means it fights for class honours. 500bhp XFR should humble the mighty BMW M5.


 
2. Jaguar SS100
Launched in 1936, this was the first car to be recognised as a Jaguar. With a 100bhp 3.5-litre straight-six motor it was capable of 101mph. Just 314 examples were built.


 
3. Jaguar XK120
The XK120 was the first car to roll out of the Jaguar factory following the Second World War. Fitted with the legendary 3.4-litre XK engine it was capable of 120mph.


 
4. Jaguar C-Type
Although it was only ever a race car, the C-Type was extremely influential. Not only did it win the classic Le Mans 24 hours in 1951, but it also pioneered the use of disc brakes.

5. Jaguar D-Type
Arguably one of the most beautiful competition cars ever, the D-Type took Le Mans honours in 1957. A powerful 3.8-litre version of the XK engine meant that 180mph was possible.


 
6. Jaguar XKSS
The XKSS was essentially a road-going version of the D-Type racer. Just 16 examples were ever made of this classic Jag, with most going to the US. Hollywood actor Steve McQeen was one of the lucky owners.


 
7. Jaguar MKII
Think of a classic British saloon and it's probably the MKII that springs to mind. During the Sixties it was a popular criminal's getaway car, but it gained real celebrity status as the wheels of TV detective Inspector Morse.


 
8. Jaguar E-Type
When it was launched in 1961 even Enzo Ferrari had to concede that the E-Type was 'the most beautiful car ever made'. Offered 150mph performance and cost a third less than slower Aston Martin DB4.

9. Jaguar XJ6
Launched in 1968, the all-new saloon was first Jaguar to us the XJ badge. it featured a sophisticated suspension set-up that gave excellent ride and handling. Last Series III version stayed in production until 1992.


 
10. Jaguar XJS
Following the E-Type was always going to be a tough challenge, and the XJS struggled initially. However, buyers got used to the looks, particularly graceful drop-top, and it ended up staying in production for two decades.


 
11. Jaguar XJ40
The 1986 XJ40 was a make-or-break car for the Coventry firm and it's ageing model line-up. With hi-tech digital instruments and neat 'J-gate' gearbox, it dragged Jaguar firmly into the Eighties.


 
12. Jaguar XJ220
Few cars have received more hype than the XJ220. Concept version boasted V12 motor, four-wheel drive and 220mph. Finished article made do with twin-turbo V6, power to the rear wheels and 213mph.
