Flagship SL twins get AMG treatment

New SL 63 AMG and a freshen up for the SL 65 AMG bring drop-tops into the high performance spotlight.

There’s a pair of roofless new AMG mean machines on the way from Mercedes!

Described as “the sportiest SL-Class ever”, the new SL 63 AMG produces 518bhp and 630Nm of torque. The latest AMG convertible also gets a brand new seven-speed transmission.

Called AMG Speedshift MCT – Multi Clutch Technology - seven-speed, the system uses an automated clutch rather than a conventional automatic torque converter. This should result in quicker shifts and a more direct feel.

There’s even a Race Start function that will allow any driver to launch their SL from a standstill with maximum traction and acceleration.

Engineers at AMG have also tuned the SL’s Active Body Control to give it an sportier set-up.

Even though it does without any turbo or superchargers, the SL 63 AMG can still sprint from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph.

But if the naturally aspirated SL 63 AMG isn’t fast enough, the flagship 612bhp 6.0-litre bi-turbo SL 65 AMG has also received a makeover.
