Could this be the most important Saab in a decade? This teaser image gives the first clues to the look of the Swedish firm's forthcoming small hatchback concept.
Due to be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, the stylish newcomer is set to go head-to-head with the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and Volvo C30.
As you can see, the wide stance and muscular front end are clear evolutions of previous concepts, the AeroX (right) and 9X (left). The wraparound windscreen is also an indication of the sporty direction that the Swedish manufacturer plans to take its future models.
The showroom ready 9-1 will be based on GM’s Delta platform, which is currently used on the Vauxhall Astra and Zafira. Power is expected to come from the company's existing range of petrol and diesel motors. However, both an efficient new 1.4-litre petrol unit and an E85 fuelled BioPower engine are said to be in the pipeline.
If this snap-shot is anything to go by, the 9-1 could make an exciting alternative to its prestige rivals.
