Tool is gripping stuff

High grip screwdriver just the ticket for wet and cold conditions

Screwdrivers 02

15th April 2008

Using tools in cold or wet conditions can often mean purchase is at a premium. With Kamasa’s new seven-piece screwdriver set, this is no longer an issue, as each has a high-grip rubberised handle.

Tight fittings are no problem as the hold offered by the comfortable grip is more than adequate. For really tough jobs, there are reinforced holes in the ends designed to be used with a T-bar or the shaft of one of the other drivers in the set.

The tools are useful for most under-bonnet and interior trim work, while the varied shaft lengths ensure that it’s easy to get to most fittings.

In our practical tests, the drivers proved effective. The coating on the tips soon scratched, but the magnetic attraction was strong. The heads were also up to the job, with the screw failing before the shaft was damaged in a series of tests to simulate misuse. Less robust is the storage tray, which is made of thin and flimsy plastic that cracked easily.

As a starter set of screwdrivers for the DIY car mechanic, the Kamasa set is an ideal addition. Sturdy, comfortable and well priced, it’s only the vulnerable storage case that lets the package down.
