Wireless cameras could be coming to a road near you.

Wireless cameras could soon bring average speed checks to every motorist’s doorstep.
By tapping into Wi-Fi technology, the latest traps can now be erected on any inner city route, without the disruption and cost involved with digging up roads to lay cables. That means drivers could soon find them springing up everywhere.
The technology works by snapping and beaming vehicle registrations from one camera to another. Computer software then automatically calculates whether a car was speeding.
But the flexible systems allow large groups of cameras to communicate with each other – and that makes it even more difficult for drivers to dodge their watchful gaze. This set-up would be ideal for enforcing the 15mph limits being proposed for planned ‘eco-towns’.
The Wi-Fi cameras, made by RedSpeed, based in Kidderminster, Worcs, are being trialled on the northbound stretch of London’s Blackwall Tunnel, and will catch drivers exceeding 30mph.
