In-car rub hits spot

Halfords releases in-car back massager.

Car seats are important, but often what is comfortable for one person is not for another. To ease the pain, Halfords has released its 12V Back Massage Cushion.

It plugs into your cigar lighter, and gives you a choice of lower, upper or combined pressure points, and two massage speeds. You can certainly feel the cushion working – although over long periods it may become a distraction.

The device is operated by a simple controller that stows neatly in a pouch on the side of the pad. This is pretty basic, and it is a shame the control unit has to be so large. But thanks to the simple straps, fixing the cushion to the seat is easy. Also, the rear is made of a high-grip material to prevent it from sliding around.

The black material blends in well with most interiors, and is pleasing to the touch. However, because of the thickness of the base and backrest, it can upset your driving position, and this may not be resolved simply by adjusting the seat.

The price puts the cushion within most drivers’ reach, and compared to rivals, the Halfords product is well made. But we recommend you try before you buy to make sure you’re completely comfortable with it.
