Getting MP3 music on the move when you’re on a tight budget can be a bit hit and miss – but not with the new iO Play. It uses wireless Bluetooth technology to beam sounds to your car’s stereo.

The kit comprises a hidden amplifier and receiver, dash-mounted controller and microphone for hands-free calls. DIY auto electricians can fit it themselves, but one of the firm’s installers will have it up and running in less than an hour for about £50.

Bluetooth means there are no reception problems such as those experienced with FM transmitters, and it performed brilliantly for us. To connect, slot a dongle into your MP3 player’s headphone socket or iPod dock, and it will pair automatically with the iO Play. Connecting other Blue-tooth devices is just as simple, and five can be stored on the memory.

The controller is easy to use, letting you listen to or skip music tracks or make calls, even when the stereo is switched off. We particularly like the one-touch last number dialling, and sound quality is excellent.

The iO Play pairs with your device automatically when you enter the car, and the high-quality, problem-free wireless connection makes this set-up a winner for us.
