It looks like a metallic jelly mould, but this red sculpture is actually an insight into how future Infiniti models will be styled.
And if the prominent swooping wheelarches and sleek curvaceous body on this model are anything to go by, the future is bright for the upmarket arm of Nissan. The design study was recently revealed to a group of journalists by Nissan’s design chief, Shiro Nakamura, during an annual product review meeting in Portugal. Also unveiled at the event was a rather fuzzy looking side profile covered in opaque fabric (left).
According to the design boss, it represents a car that we will be seeing a lot more of in the autumn. In other words it’s a preview of the 350Z’s replacement! It’s obvious Nissan is playing its cards close to its chest, but large flared wheelÂarches and bold creases running the length of the vehicle are clearly visible through the cloth.
It‘s not the first time a firm has used the teaser technique. In the Eighties, Mazda hung an obscure sculpture of the MX-5 on the wall of its research and development department, in view of visiting journalists, without revealing what it was.
