Is all-in-one driver a star turn?

Versatile multi-tool proves to mixed bag when put to the test.

Fiddly fixings and fasteners can prove frustrating unless you have a set of screw-drivers with sizes to fit them all – such as those in Kamasa’s precision kit.

The selection of Phillips, star and flat drivers proved useful and durable in our test car, and the bright anodised frame looks good. It’s just a pity it was showing signs of wear after only light use.

Secured tightly in a plastic block, the bits themselves were a little awkward to get out. But once they were removed and inserted into the screwdriver, the head held them firmly, maintaining its grip even when the tool was shaken or drop-ped. We would have preferred the head to lock into position, though. As it only clicked into place, it sometimes folded back if we applied force. Handily, an LED is set into the driver head, and this was bright enough to illuminate our minor under-bonnet jobs. The switch to activate it had a positive feel and gave sufficient resistance to prevent the light being switched on accidentally.

Powering the LED with a replaceable battery is a good idea, but the cover wasn’t a great fit, and it left the electronics rather exposed.
