Stop for coffee on the go

Starbucks offer pit-stop for motorists with first drive-through coffee shop.

Starbucks

15th May 2008

Motorists can now get their caffeine hit in a hurry – at Britain’s first drive-through coffee shop!

The Starbucks branch in Cardiff is a new twist on an already popular concept used by burger chains, cinemas, banks and even chemists. As with these, visitors pull up to a fast-food-style electronic board to place their order, and staff prepare and deliver it to a nearby window.

Drivers can then decide if they want to hit the road with their cappuccino and croissants, sit inside the store or pull up outside in the site’s parking area. The outlet is also the first in Europe, but the concept could spread across the UK if it’s a success. Store manager Henry Trickey said: “We’re thrilled to have opened our first drive-through in Cardiff. It delivers the Starbucks experience in an innovative way and gives motorists the chance to relax and enjoy a good cup of coffee before continuing with their journey.”
