Ultra-rare Spider unleashed by Alfa

Italian firm celebrates historic racing success with special edition Spider.

Alfa romeo spider

23rd May 2008

Take a look at the rarest Alfa Romeo ever! It’s called the Spider Mille Miglia, and only 11 examples are planned for production.

The sleek special edition is being built to mark the company’s success in the famous Italian road race, which Alfa won 11 times between 1927 and 1957 – hence the limited production run.

It’s based on the range-topping Spider, and is fitted with its 256bhp 3.2-litre V6 engine. Each example has a unique silver plate mounted on the rear bulkhead, between the two seats, which recounts the story of one of the 11 victories. There’s also an exclusive ‘Rosso 8C’ red paintjob, a ‘Quadrifoglio’ (four-leaf clover in Italian) logo on the front flank and red stitching on the black leather seats. Prices for the model are yet to be announced.

The car was unveiled at last week’s ‘Mille Miglia 2008’, which took the form of a 1,000-mile commemorative parade using historic vehicles from the event’s past.

The competitive version of the race was banned in 1957, after a crash killed a driver, co-driver and 11 spectators in an Italian village.
