Tyre cleans up act

Latest offering from Avon attempts to tread the fine line between fun and fuel saving.

As prices at the pumps soar, check out Avon’s all-new ZV5 tyre – because the firm claims it helps drivers use much less fuel than the ZV3 it replaces.

And this improvement in efficiency is said to have been achieved while also enhancing the rubber’s handling and reducing its road noise.

Asymmetric blocks in the tread pattern enhance dry cornering ability and reduce the chance of aquaplaning in wet weather. Steering and braking responses are also claimed to be superb, while the very latest silica has been used in the compound.

The tyre caters for a wide range of vehicles, from small hatchbacks such as the Vauxhall Corsa to large saloons from Mercedes as well as MPVs and sports cars. It is available in 40 sizes for 15 to 18-inch rims, and in widths of 185mm to 235mm. Plus, as it’s the performance tyre in the line-up, the ZV5 has speed ratings ranging from 150mph to 190mph, which should be more than enough for most users.
