YOU don’t need to be a hero to have fun with this neat camcorder – you can simply be someone who wants to enjoy their favourite driving moments more than once, or share them with friends.
So why not use a conventional camcorder rather than the Motorsports Hero? The answer is plain from the minute you pull the Go-Pro newcomer from its box.
It is tiny and seriously lightweight, plus it comes in a tough waterproof plastic case, making it perfect for use in the rain and when off-roading. A selection of brackets and suckers means that you can capture the action from inside or outside the car, although we would have liked some way of hooking it up to standard photographic mounts or clamps. Picture quality is up to TV standard, and there’s a small viewfinder to help alignment. Forin-car shooting, though, we’d have preferred a wider-angle lens.
And, while the picture is great, the same can’t be said of the audio quality. Despite two settings for high and low-vibration filming, both crackled and the engine was barely audible. That waterproof case can’t help sound pick-up: we’d prefer not to have to use it, but there are no mounts which attach to the camera directly.
