The standard Audi S5 is no slouch, but that hasn’t stopped one firm supercharging it. Power from the 4.2-litre V8 climbs 156bhp to 505bhp, and the performance figures have taken a big leap, too. The S5, by German tuner MTM, covers 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 186mph. To cope with the extra power, bigger brakes and uprated suspension are offered.
Meanwhile, Audi’s official flagship coupé, the RS5, should be ready by 2009 – and it’s already been earmarked for an uprated 450bhp version of the 349bhp V8 currently fitted to the S5. But don’t rule out supercharger technology in Audi’s line-up just yet. It’s currently developing a forced-induction V6 that aims to rival BMW’s acclaimed twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six.
