Poor old Peugeot. In anticipation of winning the Le Mans 24 Hours this year, it produced a celebratory limited edition of the 207 hatch. But even though the French company was the hot favourite, arch-rival Audi pulled off an amazing last-gasp victory instead.
Still, Peugeot is pressing ahead with the 207 Le Mans Series anyway. Only 2,000 will be made, each with special bumpers, alloys and a red stripe inspired by the 908 HDi racers. Engine choices comprise a 1.6-litre diesel and a pair of 1.6 petrols, while aluminium trim and sports seats feature inside. The steering wheel is embossed with the car’s production number.
But the mistimed Le Mans special edition isn’t destined for British dealers. A Peugeot UK spokesman told us: “Instead, we have the 207 Cielo, with a panoramic glass roof.”
