Clean up the green way

clean up

28th June 2008

in the current climate, most of us are conscious of the effect we have on the environment. But just how bad can washing your car be for the planet?

Well, the pioneers of ecological cleaning at Ecover reckon there is some room for improvement. So the company has introduced a new range of car care products it claims is environmentally sound.

Two products are available: one is Wash and Wax, suitable for the exterior of the car, cleaning and protecting all bodywork. The other is Glass and Interior Cleaner, for use on dashboards and other bits of plastic in the cabin.

Both the solutions are manufactured from plant and mineral ingredients without the use of any strong caustic chemicals. As a result, when they are rinsed off – and Ecover recommends using rainwater to do so – the liquids biodegrade quickly and completely. They leave nothing behind that might adversely affect the environment, and Ecover says the products are kinder to users’ hands than traditional alternatives. What’s more, the company manufactures its products in an ecologically sound factory. And the bottles are recyclable.

Bosses claim that by hand-washing your car, you can concentrate on the areas that need a good scrub, while using fewer products. The range is available from most major supermarkets in the UK.
