One of the smallest cars on the road is about to make a big impact on the UK market. A new version of Smart’s ForTwo emits 88g/km of CO2 – the lowest output of any production model on sale.

The CDI diesel variant of the city runabout is already offered in showrooms in Europe, but the firm has announced that it will begin building it in right-hand drive from February.

The newcomer also promises 85.6mpg fuel economy, giving a range of 670 miles between fill-ups. Its 45bhp three-cylinder common-rail engine is mated to a five-speed automatic box with manual and auto modes.
Buyers get a choice of coupé or cabrio bodystyles, although prices have yet to be revealed.
