Design guru Gordon Murray has released details of his latest project. And it’s the complete opposite of his most famous work – the record-breaking McLaren F1 supercar.
Codenamed the T25, the city car is the first model to be developed by his self-titled design company, and the focus here is on lightweight and low emissions.
Murray claims the car will tip the scales at under 1000kg, but without sacrificing safety requirements – at least a four-star Euro NCAP rating is guaranteed.
The car’s party piece is its size – two can be driven side-by-side in a single lane, and three can squeeze into a single parking space. A clever folding design means the T25 can be flat-packed for efficient transport in large numbers – and assembled with ease at the other end.
First prototypes are set to emerge in a year’s time, and prices are rumoured to be around the £7,000 mark when the car goes on sale in 2011.
