Chevrolet’s Astra spied

American brand's Lacetti replacement set to shake up compact family car market.

Astra 02

14th July 2008

The wraps are nearly off Chevrolet’s Astra rival! Our spy shot shows its forthcoming compact family car, which is the replacement for the Lacetti.

When it goes on sale next year, it will be the most important model that the US firm has ever launched in Europe. Previewed by the Ultra WTCC concept at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, the newcomer features some of the same styling cues. It is based on the platform of the next-generation Vauxhall Astra and will even boast the same sophisticated rear suspension.

Engines – including a fresh turbodiesel – will come from a new range of GM powerplants. Inside, buyers can expect a big leap in cabin quality. The model will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
