Knockout box pumps up the power

knockout

12th July 2008

Diesel cars were once bought for economy, but recently it is just as much their power as fuel-sipping qualities that are attracting people. And the new tuning box by V-Tech is designed to boost BMW’s 3.0-litre oil-burner even further – simply by plugging into the standard wiring loom.

Although the standard cars are swift enough for most, this kit claims to boost horsepower and torque, with minimal effect on economy. The box aims to deliver a 30bhp and 50Nm jump over the standard 3-Series’ figures of 204bhp and 410Nm. It promises a similar leap in performance for the 231bhp/520Nm 5-Series.

Nine pre-set maps can be selected, each with a different balance of power and economy. Soon the company hopes to offer Bluetooth modules to sync the unit with your phone or PDA, selecting the configuration on entry and reverting to standard when you exit. Fitting at the company’s Midland HQ is included in the price.
