Goodwood Festival of Speed Gallery

It's been an exciting week for British Motorsport and following on from last weekend's Grand Prix it's the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We are going to be there so make sure you log on next week to catch up with all the latest news and exclusives from this year's exciting event. Petter Solberg   Aston Martin merges with Goodwood   Toyota racing car progression   Mazda Lola T616 '67 - 2005
1. Petter Solberg

Subaru WRC ace Petter Solberg wowed the crowds at Goodwood 2006 with a display of flamboyant powersliding in his Impreza on the rally course. He went on to finish that year's WRC championship with a disappointing sixth place finish.



 
2. Aston Martin merges with Goodwood

This year, Aston Martin will be joining the festivities at Goodwood, and celebrating its long association with the world’s most famous secret agent… James Bond. This picture, taken before Land Rover’s huge statue was built shows two of the cars that will be on display this weekend.



 
3. Toyota racing car progression

Previous dispays at the Goodwood Festival of speed have included this stunning arrangement of Formula One cars in 2007



 
4. Mazda Lola T616 '67 - 2005

The 1984 Mazda Lola T616 shows off the excess of the Group-C era of Le Mans racers with its aerodynamic body and monstrous rear wing. The Japanese manufacturer eventually drove to victory at Le Mans with the 767 B in 1991.

5. Maybach Exelero

Concept cars regularly star at the annual hillclimb, this wild looking coupe, called the Maybach Exelero, took a bow at the event in 2006. Powered by a twin turbocharged 5.9-litre V12 engine, the car offers a 0-60mph sprint of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 218mph.



 
6. Maserati Birdcage

Maserati’s gorgeous Birdcage concept wowed crowds at Goodwood in 2005. Sporting looks which previewed the GranTurismo, the Pinifarina-styled concept was built to celebrate the Italian design house’s 75th birthday.



 
7. Land Rover 08 Statue

This year Land Rover celebrates is 60th anniversary at the Festival of Speed, and will mark the occasion with this stunning sculpture. Standing 40 feet tall, the raw steel sculpture is designed to represent and enormous rock, and has been designed by Gerry Judah.



 
8. Lampkin Kick Starts 08

Motorcycle trials champion Dougie Lampkin kick started the 2008 Festival of Speed this year by riding his trials bike around the interior of Goodwood house. Lampkin gave a video tour of the country house, which ends with him doing stunts on its roof.

9. Lancia Delta

The Lancia Delta Integrale dominated rallying in the late '80s and early '90s. This car was used by Spanish ace Carlos Sainz in the 1993 WRC season, finishing fourth in the manufacturer’s championship.



 
10. Audi Quattro A2

Audi had several classic cars restored for the 2006 festival, including this 1983 GpB Quattro A2. The iconic rally machine took to Goodwood’s 2.5 kilometre loose-gravel rally stage at the 2006 Festival of Speed, reminding spectators of just how quick the Group-B legend was.



 
11. Hamilton in an F1 car

Lewis Hamilton tears up the Goodwood 1.16 mile hillclimb course in his McLaren F1 during 2007’s festival. He was joined by fellow Brits Jenson Button, David Coulthard and F1 new boy Anthony Davidson.



 
12. Audi D-Type

The 1938 Auto Union V12 D-Type blasts up the drive at the 1998 Festival of Speed. A far cry from today’s Audi’s, the uber-powerful D-Type saw heroic drivers such as Bernd Rosemeyer at the wheel in its heyday.
