Multimedia player now gets sat-nav

26th July 2008

If playing movies and surfing the Internet isn’t enough, the versatile Archos 605 WiFi multimedia player can now get you from A to B. Its new GPS in-car holder links to the vehicle’s built-in sound system through the line-out socket. Satellite navigation instructions are relayed through the head unit and speakers, while mapping is displayed on the 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen.

Postcode entry and Points of Interest (POI) are included, as is lane assistance at junctions, while recalculation when you are forced off route or miss a turn is fast and accurate. When not guiding, the 605 can provide hours of entertainment stored on its 30GB hard disk, which can not only cope with music and movie files, but also recorded TV programmes. And when you stop you can surf the Web through its WiFi connection, as long as you are in a hotspot.

Those who already own an Archos 605 with WiFi can add the GPS in-car holder for £99.99.
