Amid the glitz and glamour of an unveiling that featured pop star Alesha Dixon performing her latest song, Ford revealed the price of the Fiesta – and the range will start at £8,695 for the Studio model, some £155 less than the previous generation entry-level car.

The company also revealed that the Fiesta ECOnetic – the greenest supermini currently available with a CO2 rating of 98g/km – will cost £11,845. Featuring a specially tuned 1.6-litre TDCi diesel, lowered suspension and low rolling resistance tyres, it returns 76.3mpg.

The firm also took the wraps off the sporty Zetec S, which gets 16-inch alloys, front and rear spoilers, new side mouldings and sports suspension – all for a cost of £12,595.

The most popular model is expected to be the Zetec, which starts from £10,995 and gets 15-inch alloys, a leather steering wheel and a chrome grille, among other items. The most luxurious model will be the Titanium, which is priced from £12,095, and gets automatic headlamps, auto wipers, cruise control and 16-inch alloys. Diesel engines will consist of 67bhp 1.4 or 89bhp 1.6 TDCI units. The petrol line-up will range from a 60bhp or 81bhp 1.25-litre, 95bhp 1.4 and a brand new 118bhp 1.6-litre Ti-VCT engine.
