‘Selfish’ parkers face fines

New plans may see 'inconsiderately' parked cars towed away!

Car towed away

07th August 2008

Inconsiderate parking is the latest excuse for traffic wardens to slap a fine on your windscreen.

Leaving your car too far from the pavement or in front of a dropped kerb – even where there is no warning sign or road marking – are among the actions which could lead to penalty charges, if Department for Transport plans get the go-ahead.And motoring group the AA fears drivers could have a tough time appealing unfair tickets, as fines will be issued to vehicles parked in streets without restrictions.

Adjudicators will therefore only have a warden’s word to decide if a motor was illegally parked. Meanwhile, a clampdown in London means cars can now be towed even if parked legally! New rules apply to vehicles with more than three outstanding penalty charge notices. It is intended to target a minority of repeat offenders, the top 20 of whom have 1,712 unpaid tickets between them!
