Phone kit turns on the style

Jabra JX20

High design is an expensive commodity – as Jabra’s latest JX20 Pura headset proves. The Bluetooth hands-free kit costs £99.99, and was created by Danish industrial designer Jacob Jensen to offer phone users even more style behind the wheel. An extravagant feel is evident as soon as you open the box – from the sleek desk stand to the pretentious necklace fitting. While this allows you to wear the Pura as jewellery, we don’t expect many will sport it around their neck on a night out.

Thankfully, the rest of the package is more pleasing. Clever noise-cancelling technology gives good sound quality, and few callers realised we were talking hands-free. Auto volume adjust, well placed controls, a simple status light and intuitive pairing system make using the device child’s play. Yet while turning the unit on or off with the twisting earpiece seems like a great idea, the mechanism is easy to activate inadvertently when inserting it. Also, without the light ear hooks it isn’t the most comfortable fit and can fall out rather easily.

The JX20 is a great-looking bit of kit, and sound quality is equally good – it’s just a shame fine design costs quite so much.
