Is it a boat? Is it a plane? No, it’s a superyacht-inspired Range Rover!
Seven of the world’s top yacht stylists came up with the creation as part of a unique design competition set up by megayacht broker Edmiston in conjunction with Range Rover.
They were tasked with restyling the luxury 4x4 on a limitless budget, taking cues from their day job... and these are the results!
Ever since its launch, the Range Rover’s interior has been drawing parallels with the cabins of luxury boats. But that didn’t stop the designers from finding plenty of innovative new techniques for blurring the line between the road and sea. The most dramatic effort is Terence Disdale’s roofless concept. The full four-seater convertible has echoes of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé, with its exposed metal detailing and teak rear deck.
Andrew Winch’s creation also plays on the theme of wooden decking throughout, although there’s a unique social seating arrangement in the back, with two rear benches turned to face one another.
And that’s not all. What Range Rover would be complete without a trailer in matching wood trim fitted with eight-spoke alloy wheels? All seven designs will be exhibited at the 2008 Monaco Yacht Show, with the winning car announced on 25 September. The vehicles themselves won’t be at the Monaco expo, but visitors will be able to place orders there. Delivery time will be between three and six months, with prices ranging from £160,000 to £650,000.
