The ST isn’t the only Ka on the way – a convertible is coming, too! The new Ka drop-top arrives in showrooms in 12 months, and will lock horns with the recently announced Fiat 500 cabriolet. But while the Italian model uses a lightweight, canvas roof, Ford insiders say the firm will engineer a folding hard-top using the lessons learned from the Focus CC.
The outgoing Ka was available as a convertible in the form of the roadster-style Streetka. This time, though, blue oval bosses are keen to keep the standard model and open-top variants as similar as possible, which is why the Ka will gain a metal hood. However, the addition of the roof mechanism means that the Ka CC will be limited to a two-seater, albeit with adequate boot space for a week’s shopping. Inside, the new car will feature much improved materials and plenty of scope for the personalisation of colours and trim.
Engine choices are likely to be a 100bhp 1.4-litre petrol and Fiat’s 1.3 Multijet diesel. Expect the Ka CC to carry a price premium over the standard car, starting at around £13,500.
