It's the invasion of the new-shape Renaults! Hot on the heels of the Mégane comes the revised Clio, which is expected to hit UK shores in early 2009.
We first hinted at the arrival of the MkIV car in February (Issue 1,000). And now, our spies have snapped these exclusive shots, which reveal that the new Clio is well and truly on the way.
The next generation will feature a heavily revised front end and share the new family face of the Mégane.
Changes in Euro NCAP crash tests come into force in 2009, which mean all new cars will have to be more pedestrian-friendly in an accident if firms want a top rating. Renault is fiercely proud of its safety record, so engineers have made every effort to improve the front end safety of new models. Both the Laguna and the Mégane have taken on long, swooping headlamps that flank the bonnet – and as these pictures show, the Clio is set to follow suit. That’s why Renault’s test drivers have wrapped contrasting white camouflage around the front and rear.
A reshaped front bumper, as well as new badge, grille and driving lamps, are on the cards, too. At the rear, there will be a set of revised lights, along with a jutting tailgate to improve boot space.
Our images also reveal a large amount of aluminium fixtures on the interior, which means that Renault is upping the stakes inside to compete with the build quality and finish of Ford’s new Fiesta.
