PERSONALISED number plates that spell exact words could soon be up for grabs if a new bill goes through parliament.

Currently a car owner can buy a license plate saying ‘J4 MES’ but not ‘JAMES’ And ministers think that by permitting the latter, the DVLA could make a lot of money by selling them off.

Last year, more than 250,000 registration plates were put on the marketplace, raising £87 million. And the AA have suggested that some of the additional money raised under the Bill, which could be as much as £1 billion over the next 10 years, should be used for road safety measures.

So far, the only concern is from ACPO association of chief police officers that worries their ANPR cams won’t be able to read all the plates.
