Hi-tech oil’s mpg boost

Change your oil to save petrol – that’s top maker Castrol’s claim for the latest addition to its long-running Magnatec line-up.

In an average year’s motoring, the firm says you’ll travel an extra 370 miles on the same amount of fuel using the product. As this works out at around £40, the oil will pay for itself in 12 months. Magnatec 5W-30 A1 has been formulated to reduce internal friction – key to cutting fuel consumption. It also lowers engine operating temperatures and contains Intelligent Molecules – said to protect against wear during cold starts.

The synthetic formula lowers emissions, helps easier starting plus reduces engine wear and maintenance bills. It has been developed in conjunction with major motor manufacturers, and is recommended by Ford, Jaguar and Land Rover, among others.

It can be used by cars built to work with A1/B1-rated oils, so check your handbook. Castrol research shows half of drivers choose the wrong lubricant, and risk increased engine wear, fuel consumption and emissions. The oil joins 10W, 15W-40 and diesel products in the Magnatec range.
