Meet the supercar of tomorrow! First came the FCX Clarity, and now here’s the FC Sport – the latest Honda fuel cell car.
Stunning everyone at the Los Angeles Motor Show, it’s been penned at the firm’s advanced design studio in Pasadena, California – and proves that hydrogen vehicles can look mean as well as being green.
Power comes from the same advanced fuel cell drivetrain developed for the four-door Clarity. But with a bigger output and a unique chassis, the new machine promises increased performance and driver appeal.
The entire propulsion system is moved towards the back of the car to create a mid-engined rival to the likes of the Ferrari F430. And the V-Flow fuel cell stack is located between the rear seats, above the battery pack. Inside, the three-seater cabin is inspired by McLaren’s 1992 F1 supercar – with the driver in the centre and the two passengers set back on either side.
Honda claims the Sport has zero emissions and a very low centre of gravity. That’s because the fuel cell technology allows the stack to sit low down in the chassis, with the majority of the vehicle’s weight between the front and rear axles.
Not only is the newcomer incredibly clean, it has been specifically designed to use organic materials. And while it’s officially a concept, Honda has not ruled out putting the model into production.
