Electric stunner is light fantastic

Lightweight E-Motion looks dramatic, and under skin is hi-tech electric powertrain.

E-Motion

01st December 2008

Forget the Toyota Prius or Honda Insight... this could be the car that points the way for green motoring.

Called the E-Motion, it’s the brainchild of Swiss designer and former VW employee Murat Guenak. It has skinny 22-inch wheels, while an aluminium chassis and plastic body mean the E-Motion weighs 800kg.

It’s powered by a 94bhp electric motor, which gives a range of 62 miles. When energy is low, a tiny 24bhp engine kicks in to top them up – a similar set-up to the Chevrolet Volt.

But this isn’t simply a crazy concept – the developers are aiming to sell 10,000 cars a year, priced at £40,000 each.
