WHAT’S six to the power of four? VW has the answer!
The firm’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system has been added to the Golf MkVI line-up. But the set-up will be available as an option for only one model: the 2.0-litre TDI.
This engine delivers 140bhp and peak torque of 320Nm at only 1,750rpm. The 4MOTION aims to harness this low-rev power for better handling in ice, rain and snow, or when going over rough road surfaces.
It uses a six-speed gearbox and Haldex transmission that splits power between the front and rear axles, depending on where it is most needed.
The smooth acting system was previously available on 2.0-litre petrol and diesel versions of the MkV, as well as the flagship R32. But it won’t come to the UK. VW says slow sales of the previous-generation 4MOTION Golf, as well as the availability of the Tiguan and Touareg 4x4s, mean the newcomer is not earmarked for our shores.
