New SpecV GT-R takes aim at 911 GT2

Nissan finally unwraps its fastest ever model... But will it be worth the wait?

Nissan GT-R SpecV

At last! Nissan has released first pictures and full details of its incredible new SpecV GT-R…

The limited edition model, which goes on sale in Japan on 2nd February offers unique bodywork, a two seat interior and performance modifications designed to raise the GT-R’s performance to even higher levels…

Though the car’s mechanical specification remains a secret, Auto Express can reveal that with an extra 5bhp, its tuned engine will develop a breathtaking 478bhp, while liberal use of carbon fibre drops the kerbweight to 1,650kg.

Exterior features include a carbon fibre rear spoiler, grille, and brake ducts. The newcomer is also available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal paint.

Inside, the SpecV’s unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fibre bucket seats, while carbon fibre insets embellish the rear centre storage box and instrument panel.

Performance is further enhanced with a new high-gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine’s twin turbochargers for greater torque, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.

The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminium wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008.

The lighter wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, modified suspension and high-grip tyres, combine to deliver the SpecV’s improved performance.

Though there’s no official word on whether the car will be officially imported to the UK, it’s thought prices will start at £80,000.
