Chrysler is aiming to silence its critics at this year’s Detroit Motor Show with a new, all-electric family car concept called the 200C EV
The smart looking model is a new Vauxhall Insignia sized hatchback, powered by an advanced electric powertrain. - evolved from the plug-in unit that debuted in the Dodge Circuit EV.
Described as a ‘blend of provocative design and leading edge technology’ the car’s surprise unveiling draw applause from the large crowds that had gathered to watch Chrysler’s conference.
With 40miles of all-electric range, the car has a potential reach of 400miles, thanks to a small petrol engine, used to top up battery charge on longer journeys.
The new unit, which insiders hint could be available as early as 2011, is part of Chryslers new ENVI - taken from the word environmental – developed family of engines, all of which combine the very latest battery technology.
The ENVI team is formed of a small group of engineers and design experts dedicated to bringing these products to market as quickly as possible
With its fast growing family of electric vehicles, Chrysler says it is aiming to make good on its promise of becoming the world’s most successful builder of electric cars.
