A new Lion is about to leap into view! In a UK exclusive, Auto Express can bring you these amazing pictures of the all-new Peugeot 208.

Scooped by Auto Plus, our sister magazine in France, the Ford Fiesta rival gets a dramatic look which takes some of its inspiration from the RC Hybrid concept, revealed at the Paris Motor Show last September.

As you can see from Auto Plus’s spy shot and our main illustration, the 207 replacement features a more prominent nose with a huge badge, enormous headlights and bold air intakes.

The car is the work of new Peugeot chief designer Jean-Pierre Ploue, who has joined from fellow PSA firm Citroen, and replaces Jerome Galix. His job is to differentiate the two marques – and the radical 208 certainly does that.

At the rear, the restyle continues with large tail-lights and a sporty lower bumper, which incorporates twin diffusers. The new car will debut a host of super-efficient turbocharged petrol and diesel powerplants, and is set to be fitted with a start-stop system that switches off the engine in stationary traffic to save fuel and cut emissions.

Three and five-door cars will be available, although buyers will have to be patient – as the 208 isn’t due here until 2012.

Striking

This a striking looking car. Given that it is aimed at the Fiesta market it will sell well. It will probably be cheaper than the Fiesta too. Peugoet are set to launch some interesting cars in the next couple of years which will see see some nice designs on the roads of Europe.

Look it's Bigbazza with another dig at Ford!!

Just when I thought it was impossible to make 207 even uglier, they come up with this dross. Is the huge badge really necessary? It may be cheaper the the Fiesta, but you will pay more in the long run for servicing, parts and depreciation. plus being designed primarilly for the left hand drive market; the peddles will still be off set and the handling will leave you underwhelmed with vague over powered steering and poor handling.

Trying to be balanced I am happy to see the end of the wide mouthed frog face. The new one is an improvement, now get rid of the silly golf club door mirrors and reduce the badge size (a lot) and it will be a drastic improvement!

O......My.......God....Noooooooo!!!!

Just when you thought Peugeot might have turned a corner they produce this monstrosity, truly a face that only its mother could love........it looks like one of Satans minions!!
Peugeot please put your cap firmly in hand, catch a train to Turin and tell Pininfarina all is forgiven.

smike

hideous is an understatement

Styling is currently going through an unfortunate uber Brash phase. This is the current epitome of vulgarity, but the future may be even worse for the automotive aethete.

Hate it

Horrendous! Makes me P(e)uke. Big disappointment for whoever thought Peu has found its way back to elegance.

Doc Hudson from 'Cars' made metal.

HA HA HA HA HA! What a joke, I hope Pixar get some credit for inspiring the cartoon styling. Hudson cars are dead and largely forgotten. Peugeot are heading that way with this design. Worse than cod-face they used to stretch across all their cars.

What's with the silly grin?

Is someone tickling the 208's fancy? It sure looks that way...

It wouldn't look bad at all if it wasn't for the inane grin, maybe Peugeot have given it a frontal lobotomy...
