scooter sat-nav shows the way!

17th January 2009

Navigating while riding a scooter or bike can be a real pain. So if you’ve made the switch from four wheels to two, you’ll need something like the TomTom Rider sat-nav.

The device, which includes a Bluetooth helmet headset, is easy to fit. Instructions were easy to make out, even at motorway speeds, while taking calls was also problem-free when travelling more slowly.

The handlebar mount was simple to install and neatly went around our scooter’s mirror stalks, although the clamp will leave marks. Most on-the-move controls can be activated with gloves on, but we found it hard to hit keys close to the edge of the screen as they are deeply recessed in the rugged, waterproof case.

Overall, a well thought out bit of kit and a must for riders who often tackle unfamiliar routes.
