Liberty Games MultiDrive RS Driving Simulator - tested

In the ultimate driving games’ hot seat.

18th January 2009

No matter how good a driving video game is, you never get the feel of being in a real car when you’re sitting on the sofa with a controller in your hand. But the new MultiDrive RS Driving Simulator from Liberty Games promises to get you closer than ever before.

Its large size is disguised by the open frame, and although the trailing wires and visible speaker boxes could be easier on the eye, it’s still fairly neat.

Getting comfortable in the bucket seat is easy, and the subwoofer and ‘rumbler’ below ensure you feel every engine vibration and bump in the road surface. From the side, sound quality can appear flawed, but the 5.1 surround system is set up perfectly for the person in the hot seat. And while feedback from the controls isn’t perfect, it’s still better than a normal controller, and the big screen puts you right in the action. Best of all, it’s compatible with any console – although that’s the least you would expect given its huge £2,695 price.

Problems? You can’t ignore that price, and set-up’s large size makes storage a real issue.
So why buy? Closest thing to an arcade console in your home.
