If there’s one thing the 650bhp Gumpert Apollo didn’t need it was more power! But that hasn’t stopped the exotic German manufacturer from building the Apollo Speed shown here – with a choice of 700bhp or 800bhp from its twin-turbo Audi-sourced 4.2-litre V8. Polished aerodynamics mean a 0-62mph sprint in 3.0 seconds flat and a top speed of over 225mph.
To set itself apart, the Speed receives a two-tone paint job, as well as sitting nine millimetres lower than other Apollo variants. Other changes include a more rounded wheel arch design and revised rear lights, plus a small adjustable spoiler. And just a like an F1 car – the carbon and aluminium underbody is fully enclosed to improve airflow under the car.
But despite the racing-technology, the interior features such creature comforts as air-conditioning and Alcantara buckets seats. The maddest Gumpert yet will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
