TESTED - Valentine Concours Carnauba Wax

Wonder wax proves a real shining star

01st March 2009

The best car waxes often contain carnauba, harvested from the leaves of a South American palm tree. But if a product contains too much it can be difficult to apply; too little and it will provide insufficient protection.

The managing director of Belfast firm Valentine was frustrated by the waxes available so set out to make his own – and Concours Carnauba Wax was the result. The box contains the product itself, two microfibre cloths, an applicator pad and a detailing brush for hard-to-reach bits. The wax was easy to apply and buffed off for a high sheen.

The finish was great, but when tested for durability it fell behind our class winner, Collinite 476S, and water beading slowed dramatically after only four weeks. But the brush made it easy to remove any residue that accumulated around the washer nozzles and was good for getting into deep crevices. Overall, it’s a decent product that only falls down for durability and price.
